Terms of Service
Last updated: September 2026
These terms govern your use of the OakTutor app and the tutoring you book through it. By creating an account or booking a lesson you agree to them.
1001532201 Ontario Inc., Toronto, Canada, publishes and operates the OakTutor app. Visionet Associates Pte. Ltd., Singapore, trading as Oak Education at oakedu.sg, provides the tutoring services and is the seller of record for lessons, collecting payment for them.
1. What OakTutor provides
OakTutor is an app for finding a teacher from Oak Education, booking one to one lessons in IB and AP subjects, and messaging that teacher about the lessons. The app is the place where you browse, book, pay and communicate.
The lessons themselves are taught by teachers engaged by Visionet Associates Pte. Ltd. Your contract for the tutoring is with that company. Your contract for the use of the app is with 1001532201 Ontario Inc.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. A parent or guardian holds the account for a student who is under 18.
- The information you give when you create an account, including the student name and grade, must be accurate and kept up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for activity that takes place under your account.
- Tell us promptly at jerry@oaktutor.app if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.
3. Trial lessons
- A trial lesson is a single one to one session of 60 minutes with the teacher you choose, intended to let you judge the teaching before committing to a course of lessons.
- The trial fee is shown in the app before you confirm and pay. It is currently S$40 per session.
- A trial booking is confirmed once payment has been received and the teacher has accepted the time.
- A trial lesson that has been delivered is not refundable. See section 6.
- There is no obligation to book further lessons after a trial.
4. Lessons, scheduling and attendance
- Lesson times are agreed between you and the teacher through the app and are shown in the time zone set on your account. The default time zone for the teaching team is Singapore, GMT+8.
- Please arrive on time. Where a student is late, the lesson still ends at the scheduled time.
- If a teacher cannot attend a confirmed lesson, we will offer a replacement time or a full refund for that lesson.
- Teacher availability changes from term to term, and we cannot guarantee that a particular teacher will remain available for future lessons.
5. Payment
- Prices are shown in Singapore Dollars (SGD) unless stated otherwise, and are confirmed in the app before you pay.
- Payment is taken before a lesson is delivered.
- Payments are collected by Visionet Associates Pte. Ltd. through FomoPay, a payment provider licensed in Singapore. Your card and wallet details are handled by FomoPay under its own terms and security standards, and are not stored by us.
- A booking is confirmed only once payment has been received.
- You are responsible for any bank charges, currency conversion costs or taxes that your own bank or country applies to a payment.
6. Refunds and cancellations
Refunds for lessons booked through OakTutor are governed by the Oak Education Delivery and Refund Policy, which is published at oakedu.sg/en/refund and forms part of these terms. Please read it before you book.
In summary, and subject to that policy:
- A trial lesson is not refundable once it has been delivered.
- Approved refunds are processed within 14 business days, to the original payment method.
- Where a lesson cannot go ahead because of something on our side, you may choose a replacement time or a refund for that lesson.
To request a refund, write to jerry@oaktutor.app with the booking reference.
7. Acceptable use
When you use the app and attend lessons, you agree that you will not:
- Use the app for anything unlawful, or in a way that interferes with its operation or security.
- Record, photograph or stream a lesson without the teacher's written permission.
- Copy, republish or sell course materials, teacher profiles, videos or any other content from the app.
- Share your account, or give access to lessons or materials to anyone who has not paid for them.
- Send abusive, threatening, harassing, discriminatory or deliberately misleading messages to a teacher or to our staff.
- Attempt to contract with a teacher outside the platform for lessons first arranged through it.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any account, system or data.
Abusive or disruptive behaviour during a lesson may end that lesson immediately and may lead to the account being closed without refund.
8. Intellectual property
- The OakTutor app, its design and its content, together with the course materials used in lessons, belong to 1001532201 Ontario Inc. or to Visionet Associates Pte. Ltd. as the case may be.
- You receive a personal, non transferable right to use the app and the materials for the student named on the account, and for no other purpose.
- The OakTutor and Oak Education names and logos are the trademarks of their respective owners and may not be used without written permission.
9. Third party services
The app relies on services provided by others, including FomoPay for payments, Supabase for data storage, and Apple for app distribution. Those services operate under their own terms, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions. Links to other websites, including oakedu.sg, are provided for convenience and are subject to the terms published there.
10. Limits on our responsibility
- The app is provided on an as is basis. We work to keep it available and correct, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of faults.
- We do not guarantee any particular educational outcome, examination grade or admission result.
- To the extent permitted by law, our total liability in connection with a lesson or with your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid for the service in question.
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
- Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Ending your use of the service
You may stop using the app and ask us to close your account at any time, as described on our Support page. Closing an account does not by itself refund lessons already paid for, which remain governed by the refund policy in section 6. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and will tell you why where we are able to.
12. Changes to these terms
We may amend these terms as the service develops. The current version is always published on this page with the date it took effect. Where a change materially affects your rights we will tell account holders by email or in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the amended terms.
13. Governing law
These terms, and any dispute about the app or your account, are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.
The tutoring services supplied by Visionet Associates Pte. Ltd., including the refund policy referred to in section 6, are governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have jurisdiction over disputes about them. Nothing here removes a right you have under the mandatory consumer law of the country in which you live.
